Shared risk IVF programs with FET vs. financial protection
Shared risk IVF programs with FET return part of what you paid if you are unsuccessful, but whether frozen embryo transfers (FETs) are inside the price varies by program.
Sunfish takes a different approach. Its IVF Success Program includes all single embryo transfers of your eligible embryos for one year inside one flat price, and the Gold Program adds a guaranteed refund of up to $15,000.¹

What does shared risk with FET included mean?
A shared risk program charges one set price for a planned course of IVF and returns part of it if you are unsuccessful. FET stands for frozen embryo transfer, the step where a stored embryo is placed.
Programs differ on whether transfers are included: according to FertilityIQ, some include them and others bill them separately. At a clinic, each additional embryo transfer can cost $4-6k, and most people need 3 transfers to have a 95% chance of success, per research published by the National Institutes of Health.
Sunfish’s IVF Success Program includes all single embryo transfers of a patient’s eligible embryos at one fixed price for up to a year, in place of the separate fee a fertility clinic charges for each frozen embryo transfer. The Gold Program adds a guaranteed refund of up to $15,000.¹

Sunfish accepts patients into its IVF Success Program at 100% eligibility, with no exclusions on age, diagnosis, or insurance, whereas many IVF programs screen applicants out by age or health data. The standard package price is the same regardless of a patient’s medical profile.

IVF with Sunfish was completely different from our prior attempt. My wife, 40, loved the care packages. The bills were handled and the preparation guides helped me be a better partner. After 3 transfers, all included in our bundle, we’re expecting our son!
Clinic shared risk vs. multi-cycle packages vs. Sunfish Gold
Shared risk programs differ most on what happens to the transfers. Here's what differs by model.
Clinic shared risk
You have to qualify first, often on age or ovarian reserve. The refund is set by the clinic, and depending on the program, frozen embryo transfers may be billed separately at around $4-6k each.
Multi-cycle packages
You pay one price for a set number of attempts. Once you reach that count, further transfers are priced again.
Sunfish Gold
No qualifying gate, whatever your age or diagnosis. All single embryo transfers are included for one year, and eligible Gold members get a guaranteed refund of up to $15,000 if they are unsuccessful.¹
With Sunfish, your partner clinic delivers the care, the transfers sit inside one flat price, and the Gold Program adds the refund.

It depends on the program, and it is the first thing to check in the agreement. According to FertilityIQ, some programs include transfers and others bill them separately; at a clinic, each additional transfer can cost $4-6k. The Sunfish IVF Success Program includes all single embryo transfers of your eligible embryos for one year inside the flat price, and the Gold Program adds a guaranteed refund of up to $15,000.¹
All single embryo transfers of your eligible embryos, for up to a year. The included transfers end when a year has passed or all your eligible embryos have been transferred, whichever comes first. Your package terms set the exact dates.
You won't pay for another transfer within your included year. If your retrieval cycle itself is unsuccessful, a new retrieval cycle is a separate cost and isn't included. If you are unsuccessful, eligible Gold members may receive a guaranteed refund of up to $15,000, or a discount to continue treatment.¹
Many shared risk programs screen applicants on age, ovarian reserve, BMI, or treatment history. Sunfish’s IVF Success Program doesn’t screen anyone out by age, diagnosis, or insurance. Clinically, whether IVF makes sense for you is a question for your fertility clinic. Sunfish is not a medical provider. You complete a physical evaluation at an eligible IVF clinic, and that clinical data shapes the refund available on the Gold Program, not your package price.
Sunfish isn’t a clinic. It works with its partner clinics, and you and your doctor still make every medical decision. Your price is one flat fee with every single embryo transfer included for a year, rather than a refund agreement where transfers may be billed separately. Sunfish also handles the billing with your clinic, so there are no separate bills to juggle.
A new egg retrieval cycle is priced separately and sits outside the included transfers. Medication and PGT-A genetic testing also sit outside the flat price: medication comes from the Sunfish partner pharmacy with a guaranteed lowest-price match, and your clinic bills PGT-A if you opt for it. Sunfish names both costs at the quote. Your Sunfish IVF Success Program Agreement lists the full set of conditions.
