Freezing eggs and finding a problem.
In 2016, our founder Angela Rastegar explored freezing her eggs. She had just started a new company, didn’t have fertility coverage, and quickly found herself facing a process that was confusing, expensive, and incredibly isolating. With no clear guidance and little support, she paid out of pocket and navigated it all alone. That experience planted the early seeds for Sunfish.
When dreams cost too much.
Spurred by the magnitude of this problem, Angela joined one of the largest fertility companies. What she saw was both eye-opening and heartbreaking. People were draining their 401(k)s, selling engagement rings, or going into deep debt for a chance to have a child. Often, they had little support and no one to guide them. The need for a better, more compassionate system was clear.
Personal turning point.
