Sunfish vs CNY Fertility is really a choice between two ways of managing IVF costs: a lower price per cycle, or a predictable total at a Sunfish partner clinic near you.

Most people comparing these two are doing the math on travel. Is CNY's lower per-cycle price worth leaving your own clinic for? That price depends on treating at one of CNY's own locations, or traveling for part of the cycle. Sunfish solves for the opposite trade-off: it works through a partner clinic near you, for one flat price, so you're not traveling to reach it.

Both programs offer a refund, but they're built very differently, and that's what this comparison covers.

How CNY Fertility Prices a Cycle

CNY Fertility publishes its IVF pricing online, and they are transparent about where that price comes from. CNY lists its base IVF package at $7,994 to $12,888. CNY lists egg retrieval, ICSI, assisted hatching, and embryo freezing with first-year storage as included in this price, with medication and monitoring billed separately.

For comparison, according to GoodRx, citing data from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the average base IVF cycle in the U.S. costs $12,400 before medication and genetic testing, and the all-in cost (medications and testing included) could run $15,000 to $30,000 or more. PGT-A genetic testing typically adds another $4,000 to $5,000 on top of the base cost, according to Scientific American. For any patient, that price is variable depending on factors like how many embryos are tested and the medication protocol a given patient needs.

Treatment is centered at CNY's own clinic locations, with full-service clinics in New York, Colorado, Virginia, and Florida. According to CNY, over 50% of its patients live in states where it has no office, so the clinic runs a travel program. Most traveling patients do their monitoring at a facility near home and can typically return home the day of, or the day after, their procedures.

CNY has operated this way since 1995. The clinic also reports SART membership and lab accreditation through SART's national reporting system.

How Sunfish Prices a Cycle

The IVF Success Program starts from a different structural decision. Instead of asking a patient to travel, it prices one full cycle, delivered at a Sunfish partner clinic in the patient's own area. That cycle includes egg retrieval, anesthesia, embryology services, embryo freezing, in-cycle monitoring, and cycle management.

Sunfish's Success Programs include the IVF or egg freezing treatment cycle at one flat price with no hidden costs. Medication and PGT-A genetic testing sit outside that price: medication comes from a Sunfish partner pharmacy with a guaranteed lowest-price match, and the clinic bills PGT-A if a patient opts for it. Sunfish names both costs at the quote.

The program also includes all eligible single embryo transfers, not just one. Most people need 3 transfers to have a 95% chance of success, per research from RMA Network. Outside a program like this, each additional embryo transfer can cost $4,000 to $6,000.

Sunfish's IVF and Egg Freezing Success Programs are available only at partner fertility clinics, including Pacific Northwest Fertility in Seattle and Bellevue, Everleap Fertility (formerly Boston IVF), Kindbody, RMANY, and San Diego Fertility Center. Each partner clinic has its own co-branded program page and pricing. The programs are available to a patient only if their clinic is a Sunfish partner. Sunfish publishes the current partner list on its site.

CNY's Refund Program, and What It Requires

CNY also runs a refund program called the Fertile Guarantee. CNY describes it as up to six IVF cycles with a 75% refund of treatment fees if you don't have a baby.

CNY lists the IVF package at $20,000 for patients under 35, with higher prices for ages 35 to 39.

The program is limited to patients under 40 and uses lab cutoffs for FSH, AMH, and estradiol, along with limits on prior failed IVF cycles and certain uterine and sperm conditions. Patients with IVF insurance coverage aren't eligible, and a CNY physician makes the final call. Criteria may change, so check CNY's current terms.

Sunfish's Refund Program

Sunfish prices each IVF Success Program from a predictive cost forecast. On the Gold Program, Sunfish returns a partial refund of up to $15,000, or a discount to continue treatment, if your actual costs come in higher than the forecast.¹ The refund sits on top of a fixed program price that includes all eligible embryo transfers. A member's cost is capped before the refund is triggered.

The two refunds protect against different things. CNY's guarantee protects against paying for several cycles and not having a baby. Sunfish's refund protects against your cost of reaching a live birth coming in higher than predicted, at a Sunfish partner clinic.

Which One Fits Your Situation

If you're open to traveling and want to lock in a multi-cycle plan at one clinic upfront, CNY's model is built for that. If you'd rather stay at a Sunfish partner clinic and want one predictable price with all single embryo transfers and a cost-forecast refund built in, that's what the Sunfish IVF Success Program is designed to do. Compared to CNY's guarantee, which has its own enrollment requirements, it has no exclusions by age, diagnosis, or insurance.

Sunfish's IVF financial planning resources and its guide on how to get an IVF refund walk through the cost forecast and refund process in more detail. It's also worth reviewing IVF success rates by clinic, since outcomes vary by location regardless of which pricing structure you choose.

FAQ

How much does Sunfish IVF cost?

Sunfish prices the IVF Success Program as one flat fee per full cycle, but the exact number depends on which partner clinic you're working with, since each partner clinic has its own pricing. Medication and PGT-A are quoted separately, with medication price-matched through a Sunfish partner pharmacy.

What is included in an all-inclusive IVF package?

Definitions can vary by provider. At minimum, it typically means the core cycle priced as one fee rather than billed separately at each step, usually covering egg retrieval, anesthesia, embryology services, and monitoring. Sunfish's version also includes all eligible single embryo transfers, one year of embryo storage, and, on the Gold Program, a partial refund of up to $15,000 if your actual costs come in higher than the forecast,¹ available only through Sunfish partner clinics.

Who qualifies for a Sunfish IVF Success Program?

Sunfish accepts patients into its IVF Success Program at 100% eligibility, with no exclusions on age, diagnosis, or insurance, where many IVF programs screen applicants out by age or health data. Full eligibility terms are in the Sunfish IVF Success Program Agreement.

Is Sunfish an insurance company?

No. Sunfish's IVF and Egg Freezing Success Programs are packages a patient buys outright from Sunfish for treatment at a partner fertility clinic, for a price quoted before treatment begins. Sunfish is not an insurer or a lender. The fixed price and its financial protection don't require monthly premiums or a policy purchase. See the full FAQ list for current program terms.

Does Sunfish guarantee a live birth?

No. Financial protection is a program benefit, not a medical guarantee. Sunfish is not a medical provider, and every clinical decision stays between you and your physician. The guaranteed refund of up to $15,000 applies to eligible Gold Program members if you are unsuccessful within Sunfish's predicted cost, subject to program terms.¹

¹ As part of the Sunfish IVF Success Program, Sunfish provides a predictive cost forecast using Sunfish's proprietary software that calculates the expected financial costs for each family to achieve a Live Birth based on a range of factors. If you fail to achieve a Live Birth within your predictive cost forecast and there are unexpected financial costs that were not accurately predicted by the forecast, our software Warranty may entitle you to receive a partial refund of your treatment package costs. Additional costs may be incurred outside of the Treatment Package Costs. See our Sunfish IVF Success Program Agreement for conditions and details.
