As part of the Sunfish IVF Success Program, Sunfish provides a Custom Financial Plan using Sunfish's proprietary software that calculates the expected financial costs for each family to achieve a Live Birth based on a range of factors. If you fail to achieve a Live Birth within your custom financial plan budget and there are unexpected financial costs that were not accurately predicted by the Financial Planning Tool, our software Warranty may entitle you to receive a partial refund of your treatment package costs. What IVF costs in Orange County, and what it costs with Sunfish
Most clinics quote a base cycle price, then bill medications, genetic testing, storage and each embryo transfer on top. In California, large employer plans must now cover up to three egg retrievals. Small group plans only have to offer coverage, and individual plans, self-funded plans and Medi-Cal are exempt. Before you start, review these questions to ask your insurance company.

IVF in California FAQs
Celenova publishes IVF at $14,000 to $18,000 and up, with IUI at $1,000 to $2,000, frozen transfers from $4,000 and genetic testing from $3,000. Medications are extra. The IVF Success Program replaces that with one fixed price including all embryo transfers for one year, plus a guaranteed lowest-price match on medications from Sunfish partner pharmacy and member benefits on storage.
Some plans, since January 2026. Fully insured large group plans, meaning employers with more than 100 employees, must cover up to three completed egg retrievals with no cap on embryo transfers. Small group plans only have to offer it. Individual plans, self-funded employer plans and Medi-Cal are exempt. Sunfish checks your coverage for you, and your Planning Partner explains what applies before you decide on a package.
Ask HR one question: is our health plan fully insured or self-funded? Self-funded means the employer pays claims itself and uses an insurer only to administer them, which puts it outside California's law entirely. It's the single answer that decides whether the mandate reaches you, and it's not something you can tell from your insurance card.
Not yet. California's law doesn't apply to CalPERS contracts until July 2027. Until then, coverage depends on what your specific plan already offers. Your Planning Partner builds your financial plan on the coverage you have today and updates it if that changes.
Only when medical treatment threatens your fertility. California requires covered plans to pay for standard fertility preservation when a treatment may cause infertility. Elective egg freezing has no mandate. For elective freezing, Sunfish offers the Egg Freezing Success Program at Celenova Fertility with one fixed price and a second cycle at no extra cost if your retrieval results fall short of expectations.†
Yes. The IRS treats IVF as a qualified medical expense. HSA and FSA dollars apply to treatment, medications and storage. FSA limits reset each January. A cycle that spans two plan years can draw on two years of contributions. Your Planning Partner can time payments to match.
